An Incredible Sacrifice For A Great Cause - The Battle Of Karbala
Abbas came out of the tent with thirsty lips, holding up a waterbag in his mighty hands. He rushed harshly towards the river and he made the waterbag filled with water. But the unfortunate water couldn't dampen the dried throats of the agitated angelic children.
Little angels yearning for quenching their thirst, gaze at the doorway with pretty impatient eyes. The most innocent eyes were of 4 years, Sakina.
On the other side, Abbas was grasping water in his hand, bustling toward the camp, to her niece, Sakina. The thirst of selfless Abbas was equally deadly for sure. Yet he didn’t touch the water to his lips despite having it in his hand. But all he wanted was the water to moisten the throat of those little beings.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t reach his destination and the lips of Sakina left dried. His strong hand grasping the water got injured in a cruel attack. He made a firm grasp on it on his other hand. But the enemies wounded this hand too. And the water could quench the thirst of any of those seventy-two, fell and wasted over the land. Abbas couldn't withstand the next onslaught, fell to the ground, breathed his last, and was martyred.
It was a journey of death. Anyone who embarks on it would never return. Surprisingly, even in these conditions, the mujahideen were incredibly enthusiastic. There was an honor of martyrdom for mujahedeen. They knew that their horses were riding towards their last journey of death; it was wondering that they were speeding them up.
What if you have beheld a 6-month infant howling with thirst? What if it is your own blood running in its veins?
We cannot even imagine. But a father was going through it in the real world. He clasped his baby and rushed to the water. He had a little hope that his deadly foes, who were from them, cannot be so much devil. They would take a pity at least on this little being and would give him some water.
But the world had become worse than hell for him with his enemies eviler than the demons.
In the next moment, his hands got drenched with flowing red blood. He would get shaken up finding his innocent baby killed in his own hands. The little Ali al-Asghar couldn't even roar of death when an evil arrow crossed his neck in the arms of his father. The one and only, Hussain Ibn-Ali filled his palm with the blood of his martyred infant. He raised his hand and sighed it to someone up in the sky.
'O Allah, just be pleased with me.'
He was his God, Allah, for whom that father devoted all his children. He sacrificed his beloved nephews, endured the loss of his heroic brothers. He was also tested by the loss of his trustworthy cousins.
The all-tolerant Hussain, himself, aided the martyred bodies of his loved ones. He kept on collecting the dead bodies of his dears until he held the last martyred body of his loyal companion to the place. He endured exceeding hardships with great courage. But didn't compromise with the falsehood and stuck firmly to his intentions.
Every dead body caused a grieved cry of women in the camps. They girded their men for departure to their final destination with great patience.
Imam Hussain(A.S) came to the women seeking their permission for sacrificing himself too for the cause of Allah and his religion.
Those high tolerant ladies were welcoming the dead bodies of their children with dried throats and heavy hearts.
Bibi Zainab, the sister of Hussain (A.S), was a lady with incredible patience who had gone through every act of misery for the cause of his brother. She was courageous enough to say a final goodbye to his brothers, that great mother who received the dead bodies of her children.
The little Sakina had a great devotion to his father, Hussain(A.S). How could she allow her father to leave knowing that he would never return alive? How would she sleep then without setting her head on her father's chest?
Zeal and zest of those incredible people were veiling their thirst for three days.
It was an unimaginable war of seventy-two thirsty brave men with the twenty-two thousand Army. But those seventy-two were the followers of truth. They stood steady yet didn't give allegiance to Yazid.
It was a battle between the men with high heads and people with shoulders bowed of mendacity. It was a war between the noble descendants of the honored last prophet Muhammad(Peace Be Upon Him), with his companions, and the authorities of Yazid on the battlefield of Karbala.
He left all alone. He rode on his horse and stormed at the enemies with great honor.
His body got full of wounds. Blood was fountaining out of his body. Even then, the words of truth were still on his lips.
Eventually, he got martyred and left the cruel world with a glorious victory, moved to the world of peace.
His terror had prevailed on the head of his foes. Despite getting orders from high commands, no one could dare to behead Hussain. Then the evil Shemar stepped forward. He didn't take pity even on himself that he would have to pay a great for his evil act. He made the cruelest act and beheaded the man with a victorious face.
His last sajdah before his martyrdom during this fierce battle was a great testimony to his truth.
Bibi Zainab didn't find her niece there in the tent. She rushed outside. The beloved Sakina was found laying down with her head on the martyred chest of his father.
The only man among those heroic warriors who survived was the son of Hussain (R.A), Zain ul Abidin. He couldn't take part in the war due to his illness. He stayed alive because this noble generation was to develop further.
The cruels took all the women captive to Yazid and ignited the camps. Bibi Zainab was guardian to all women. The enthusiastic speech of Zainab at Yazid's hall even made the enemies, the people with stoned hearts cry. Her words are written in history with red ink.
The noble ladies were there on Yazid's court. Sakina found her father with her in her dream. She woke up and began to cry, looking everywhere for her father.
"Where is my baba(Father)?"
Ladies made every possible effort to console her but in vain. After some time, she became quiet. The women around her sighed a breath of relief that finally, she would get a little peaceful sleep. But the oppressed Sakina had found eternal peace with deep sleep. Ultimately, she would be happy along with her father in heaven.
At that time, those monstrous people thought that oppression had won. But the time to come proved the real victory of Hussain.
Today even after 1300 years of this incident, millions of people are named Hussain. Millions of people come to the sacred tomb of Hussain and his martyrs for making prayers and calling Fatiha. Muslims spend a whole month doing good deeds in remembrance of their sacrifices. That is how Allah rewards those who bear hardships for him.
However, the opponents of Hussain are still cursed by millions. Those heartless people didn't even respect Hussain's lineage being a grandson of the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him). His great purpose behind the great sacrifice was to claim that Muslims, the true Muslims can devote every drop of their and their loved ones’ blood for the cause of truth and Allah's true deen.
What kind of religion will it be, whose followers are like them?
The battle of Karbala took place in year 61, 10 Muharam (according to the Islamic calendar) which is October 10, 680 AD. It is merely a tribute to the martyrs of Karbala and their courageous women. A few heart-breaking events are discussed here that they had gone through. Their belief, undoubtedly, had the power to pile up a gigantic mountain. Their great sacrifices could never forget. No one can ever make such a sacrifice.
